Why is is Diphenhydramine prescribed ?
Diphenhydramine is an effective antihistamine that
reduces the time to fall a sleep and gives more depth
to your sleep.
If you are nervous or are awakened several times during
the night Diphenhydramine can help.
Diphenhydramine can also be prescribed for other uses.
For instance in the treatment of certain forms of parkinsonism,
motion sickness and certain allergic conjuntivities.
Take Diphenhydramine exactly as directed.
Do not take more or less of Diphenhydramine or take
it more often than prescribed by your doctor.
Although side effects from Diphenhydramine are not
common, they can occur.
Tell your doctor if any of these symptoms are
severe or do not go away when taking Diphenhydramine:
Dry mouth, nose and throat, drowsiness, upset stomach,
chest congestion, headache.
Warnings when taking Diphenhydramine
Diphenhydramine should only be taken before bedtime.
It should not be used for a longer period of time than
one week.
Children under 18 should not use Diphenhydramine.
If your sleeping disorder reduces the dosage of Diphenhydramine
should be reduced as well.
Special care with Diphenhydramine
Diphenhydramine should not be combined with alcohol,
tranquilizers or antidepressants for this can increase
the effect.

doctor before using Diphenhydramine.
Pregnancy and Breastfeeding with Diphenhydramine
Diphenhydramine is NOT to be taken if pregnant or breastfeeding.
Always contact your doctor before using Diphenhydramine
when breastfeeding.
Driving
Diphenhydramine is used to sleep and you should therefore
avoid driving any vehicle under influence of Diphenhydramine.
Use for children
No children under 12 years should take Diphenhydramine
How to take Diphenhydramine
Swallow the tablet with some form of liquid.
Adults:
The recommended dosage of Diphenhydramine is 1 tablet
per day 20-30 minutes before bedtime.
Overdose with Diphenhydramine
In case of overdose with Diphenhydramine – call nearest
hospital for detoxification, indicate type of pharmaceutical
and quantity.
Possible side effects when taking Diphenhydramine:
Common:
Dizziness, dry mouth/nose, or drowsy/sedated.
Rare:
Nausea/vomiting, headache, coordination problems, blurred
vision, tightness of the chest, wheezing, abnormal heartbeat,
nervous/restless, confusion, insomnia, flushing, seizures,
hallucinations, problems urinating, nightmares, or skin
rash.
